Fuse box blamed in tragic house fire

IT was a house fire that killed a family and rocked Wagga.

And 12 months on from the devastating blaze that took the lives of Forest Hill residents John and Denise King and their 13-year-old son William, the fire's cause has finally been determined.

Despite speculation at the time of the fire that the federal government's ceiling insulation rebate scheme had taken more victims, coroner Geoff Hiatt ruled the cause was most likely an electrical fault in the house's fuse box, which may have been tampered with.

"I am sufficiently satisfied given the circumstances, of the issues raised in respect to work or tampering with the fuse in the switchboard and that this is the potential cause of an accidental electrical fire,” Mr Hiatt concluded in a written judgment.
